The Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site offers visitors the opportunity to step back in time and encounter the life and art of the world-renowned poet, Walt Whitman, Huntington’s native son who was born here in 1819. The home stands peacefully on the same spot where it was built by Whitman's father in West Hills, on the North Shore of Long Island.  Named an “American Treasure” by the White House Millennium Council, it is also listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.

After enjoying a guided tour, visitors may view our majestic new 8’ bronze statue, Whitman with Butterfly, then browse our museum gift-shop in our modern Interpretive Center.  Exciting events include seasonal family programs in addition to a wide range of literary programs. Our beautiful facility and grounds are available for business meetings, parties, lectures, art exhibits or other special events.

Please contact me if you are interested in group tours, sponsorship of our ongoing literacy programs or if you are looking for a unique heritage location for business or social functions.

Sincerely,
